What Pays What
Most 12th-level posts sit between Pay Level 1 and Level 4 — a basic of ₹18,000 to ₹25,500. In hand that usually lands between ₹30,000 and ₹45,000 once DA and HRA are added and NPS and CGHS come off.

Three Things That Get Applications Rejected
- Age is counted on the notification's cut-off date, not the day you apply. A birthday between the two changes nothing. Check yours before paying the fee.
- Photo and signature specs differ between SSC, RRB and state boards. A form that rejects your upload at 11pm on the closing day is the most common way people miss a deadline.
- SSC CHSL's typing test eliminates candidates who cleared both written papers. 35 wpm in English or 30 in Hindi. It is a motor skill, not something you revise in a fortnight.
Don't Ignore State Recruitment
State subordinate services boards fill clerical, police constable, forest guard and revenue posts at 12th pass, and state police recruitment alone often carries more vacancies in a year than SSC's entire 12th-level calendar.
Two catches. State pay follows that state's own pay commission, so a Level 3 in a state notification is not the same money as a central Level 3. And most require domicile and often the state language — which removes most of your competition if you qualify.
One Syllabus, Many Exams
SSC CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, RRB NTPC and most state clerical papers test the same four areas: quantitative aptitude at about 10th standard, reasoning, general awareness and English. Prepare once, apply to all of them.
Where people lose a year is the skill stage — typing, shorthand, physical standards. Those take months. Start while a result is still pending, not when the call letter arrives.
