Cutoff Marks

Cutoff marks are the minimum qualifying score for each category in a given stage, and they move every cycle with vacancy count, paper difficulty and the number of applicants. They are normally published with the result rather than before it. We publish cutoffs only once the recruiting body has released them officially — predicted cutoffs circulating before a result are guesswork, and acting on them is how candidates talk themselves out of preparing for the next stage.
