Selection Process

State Bank of India has released two advertisements engaging 7 Specialist Cadre Officers on contract basis — Dean, Faculty, and Marketing Executive at the State Bank Institute of Leadership (SBIL), Kolkata (Advt No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/20), and Deputy Vice President/Assistant Vice President in IT Risk (Advt No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/22). Every post demands 5 to 15 years of specific senior-level experience — this is not a fresher recruitment. Online registration and fee payment for both notifications run from 16 September to 6 October 2026.

Who Should Apply

  • Dean, SBIL Kolkata (1 post) — an MBA/Executive MBA/PGDM/PGDBA (55% marks) or a Ph.D./M.Phil., with 15 years' total experience including at least 3 years as Dean/Director/Head/Senior VP or equivalent at a bank training institute, university, or business school.
  • Faculty, SBIL Kolkata (1 post) — a Postgraduate degree in any discipline (55% marks; Ph.D./M.Phil. is an additional plus), with at least 6 years' teaching experience as Faculty/Professor/Corporate Trainer or equivalent.
  • Marketing Executive, SBIL Kolkata (1 post) — an MBA in Marketing (55% marks), with at least 5 years' marketing experience, of which 3 years specifically in marketing for executive education, training, or EdTech organisations.
  • Deputy Vice President (IT Risk) (2 posts) — a BE/BTech (CS/Electronics & Communication/IT/Cybersecurity), MCA/MSc (CS/IT), or MTech (CS/Cyber Security/Information Security), all at 50% marks, with 12 years in the IT domain (6 years in IT risk management or information security preferred), and preferably a valid CISSP, CRISC, CISM, or CISA certification.
  • Assistant Vice President (IT Risk) (2 posts) — the same educational qualification as Deputy VP, with 9 years in the IT domain (5 years in IT risk/information security preferred).

You cannot apply for both IT Risk posts (Deputy VP and AVP) — only your last valid application is retained, and the fee paid for the other is forfeited.

Eligibility & Age Limit

Every post's prescribed qualification is a floor, not a ceiling — you need the specific full-time post-qualification experience stated for your post, in the exact field required, with your experience certificate explicitly confirming this. Where your degree/PG certificate doesn't state your specialisation, you must produce a separate certificate from your university/college confirming it. Training/teaching experience does not count toward eligibility for either IT Risk post.

Age, reckoned as on 31 August 2026: 40–55 years (Dean), 35–55 years (Faculty), 28–40 years (Marketing Executive), 36–45 years (Deputy VP-IT Risk), 32–42 years (AVP-IT Risk). These maximums apply to Unreserved (UR) category candidates; relaxation for reserved categories, including PwBD, follows Government of India guidelines, with the required certificates submitted at document verification — no change of category is permitted after you register online.

Check your exact age as on the cut-off date, since eligibility for every post here is judged as on 31 August 2026, not your application date.

Vacancy Breakdown

Advt No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/20 (SBIL Kolkata): Dean (1, PwBD-VI within UR), Faculty (1, PwBD-VI within SC), Marketing Executive (1, Backlog) — 3 posts total.

Advt No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/22 (IT Risk): Deputy Vice President (2, including 1 PwBD-LD backlog within UR), Assistant Vice President (2, including 1 PwBD-LD backlog within UR) — 4 posts total.

Combined grand total: 7 posts. PwBD reservation is horizontal, included within the stated totals, not additional to them. The vacancy numbers, including reserved vacancies, are provisional and may vary per the Bank's actual requirement.

Salary & Pay Scale

These are negotiable annual CTC contracts, not a standard pay-matrix salary: Dean up to ₹98 lakh/year, Faculty up to ₹63 lakh/year, Marketing Executive ₹52 lakh/year, Deputy VP (IT Risk) up to ₹60 lakh/year, and AVP (IT Risk) up to ₹50 lakh/year. CTC is split 80:20 between Fixed and Variable Pay, with an accommodation option (and a vehicle, for SBIL posts) that deducts a notional amount from your CTC if used. Full variable pay for SBIL posts requires a 90%+ half-yearly performance score. Annual increments from year two can run up to 10% (SBIL posts) or 7% (IT Risk posts) of your finalised CTC, again subject to a 90%+ performance score. The actual figure you're offered depends on your experience, current emoluments, and place of posting — these are ceiling figures, not guaranteed amounts.

How Are Candidates Selected

Shortlisting: A committee constituted by the Bank sets its own shortlisting parameters — meeting the minimum qualification and experience doesn't by itself entitle you to an interview call. This stage is provisional and without document verification.

Interview (+ Demo Session for Dean/Faculty): Worth 100 marks for Dean and Faculty (interview combined with a teaching demo session); Marketing Executive and both IT Risk posts go through interview alone. Qualifying marks are set by the Bank.

CTC Negotiation: Conducted one-on-one, in merit order. If you don't agree to the negotiated CTC, you're treated as a Voluntary Exit, and the Bank moves to the next candidate on the list.

Final Merit List: Built in descending order of interview marks alone; ties are broken by age, with the older candidate ranked higher. Final selection goes to the top-ranked candidates who successfully complete CTC negotiation.

If you're called for interview but found not to actually meet the eligibility criteria, you won't be allowed to appear, and no travel expenses are reimbursed.

Why This Job Matters

The State Bank Institute of Leadership (SBIL), Kolkata is SBI's dedicated leadership-training institution, and this round of hiring brings in senior academic and marketing leadership for it alongside a separate, unrelated push to build out SBI's IT Risk function with experienced cybersecurity and risk professionals. Both tracks reflect how India's largest Public Sector Bank increasingly hires senior specialists laterally, on negotiated contract terms, rather than only through its traditional generalist officer cadre.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: This is a strong fit for an established academic leader (Dean/Faculty) with real institutional teaching or training-leadership experience, a marketing professional with a specific background in education/training marketing, or a senior IT professional with 9-12 years including real IT risk or information security exposure — not for someone early in their career.

Who should think twice: There's no fresher path here at all — every post has a hard experience floor of 5 to 15 years in a specific, named field, and training/teaching experience explicitly doesn't count for the IT Risk posts. The contract itself is also capped at 5 years total (3 years, extendable by 2 more), terminable by either side on 3 months' notice, so this isn't a permanent SBI appointment even after selection.

Practical tip: For the IT Risk posts, note that a CISSP/CRISC/CISM/CISA certification is only "preferred," not mandatory, but your actual years of IT risk/information security experience (not just general IT experience) are what your employer's certificate needs to specifically confirm — a generic "12 years in IT" letter without that specific field named risks being treated as not meeting the bar, since general IT-domain experience and IT-risk-specific experience are assessed differently here.

Documents Required

  • Resume
  • ID proof and Age proof
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable) and PwBD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Educational qualification certificates, plus any additional certifications (CISSP/CRISC/CISM/CISA, for IT Risk posts)
  • Experience certificate(s) from your employer(s), specifically confirming your experience in the required field (not just a generic role description)
  • University/college certificate confirming your degree's specialisation, if this isn't stated on your degree/PG certificate itself
  • Biodata and CTC Form, in the Bank's prescribed format
  • No Objection Certificate from your current employer, if you work in Government/Quasi-Government/PSU (including nationalised banks), submitted at interview

What Happens After Selection

Selected candidates are engaged on contract for 3 years, extendable up to 2 further years at the Bank's discretion (total engagement capped at 5 years). Either side can terminate the contract with 3 months' notice, or payment/surrender of 3 months' compensation in lieu. SBIL-post appointees get 30 days' leave per financial year for genuine reasons. You must produce a proper discharge certificate from your current employer before joining. The Bank can post or transfer you to any SBI office in India, or depute you to an associate/subsidiary organisation, based on its own requirements — requests for a specific posting location aren't entertained.
