North Western Railway (NWR), through Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) Jaipur, has released Notice No. 04/2026 (NWR/AA) inviting online applications for 2,008 Act Apprentice training slots under the Apprentices Act, 1961, across 8 divisions/units. Candidates aged 15 to 24 who've passed Class 10 with 50% marks and hold a relevant NCVT/SCVT trade certificate can apply online from 7 October to 6 November 2026.

Who Should Apply

  • Act Apprentice (2,008 training slots across 8 units) — Class 10 pass with minimum 50% aggregate marks, plus a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the specific trade from NCVT/SCVT

This is a training engagement under the Apprentices Act, 1961 — not a regular job, and it does not guarantee employment with the Railway afterward.

Eligibility & Age Limit

You need to have passed Class 10 (or its equivalent under the 10+2 system) with at least 50% aggregate marks (no rounding off) from a recognized board, and additionally hold a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in your specific trade issued by NCVT or SCVT. Candidates awaiting their final exam results should not apply — you must already hold the qualification as on the date of application submission.

Age (as on 6 November 2026) is 15 to 24 years. Relaxation in upper age limit:

Category Age Relaxation
SC/ST 5 years
OBC 3 years
Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) 10 years
Ex-servicemen Up to an additional 10 years, equal to their length of Defence Forces service plus 3 years, provided at least 6 months' continuous service

How Are Candidates Selected

Merit List: Calculated as the simple average of your Matriculation percentage (all subjects, minimum 50% aggregate) and your ITI trade percentage (as per the provisional/final certificate). Ties are broken first by older age, then by whoever passed Matriculation earlier. The merit list is prepared separately for each division/unit, trade, and community — there is no centralized merit list.

Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates produce original testimonials for verification; any mismatch in name, father's name, or date of birth against your Matriculation certificate leads to cancellation and debarment.

Medical Examination: A medical fitness certificate, signed by a Government-authorized Gazetted Doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central/State Hospital, is required at Document Verification. Specific fitness standards apply for Persons with Disability depending on trade.

Why This Job Matters

North Western Railway is one of Indian Railways' zonal divisions, headquartered in Jaipur and covering Rajasthan's rail network. With 2,008 training slots across 8 units, this is one of the largest Act Apprentice drives of the year, giving ITI-qualified candidates structured hands-on training inside a major railway zone — though, as with all Apprentices Act engagements, it carries no promise of a permanent Railway job afterward.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: An ITI-qualified candidate, aged 15 to 24, who already holds an NCVT/SCVT trade certificate matching one of the trades on offer and wants structured, paid training inside Indian Railways, ideally based in or willing to relocate to Rajasthan.

Who should think twice: This is training, not employment — completing it creates no obligation on NWR to offer you a job, and there's no hostel accommodation, so you'll need to fund your own stay during the full training period; also, since you can apply to only one unit and cannot change it later, picking a unit with no slot in your specific trade wastes your entire application.

Practical tip: Before you select your unit, go through the official notification's trade-wise tables carefully — some trades have a single slot in a given unit while others have dozens, and your real odds depend entirely on matching your specific ITI trade to a unit where it's actually offered, not just picking the unit with the highest total vacancy count.

Documents Required

  • Class 10 (Matriculation) mark sheet and certificate
  • National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT, provisional or final
  • Aadhaar card
  • Proof of Date of Birth matching your Matriculation certificate exactly
  • Caste certificate in Central Government format (SC/ST candidates)
  • Caste certificate plus Non-Creamy Layer Certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026, with OBC declaration (OBC candidates)
  • EWS certificate in prescribed format (EWS candidates)
  • Discharge certificate, or Armed Forces serving certificate for children of serving personnel (Ex-servicemen category)
  • Disability certificate from a competent Medical Board (PwBD candidates)
  • Medical fitness certificate as per the prescribed format, at Document Verification stage

What Happens After Selection

After the merit list is prepared, it's shared with the respective Divisions/Units, where Document Verification and Medical Examination are held based on merit, trade, and vacancy. Selected candidates (or their guardian, if a minor) must sign a Contract of Apprenticeship with the employer before training begins. No daily, conveyance, or travelling allowance is paid for attending Document Verification. On completion of training, apprentices are released — there is no automatic right to Railway employment afterward.
