Use the official link only: the application link in the source article points to a testing server (it has "qa" in its address and a tracking tag), which is not IREL's real application page. Reach the application form through the IREL Careers page.

How Are Candidates Selected

Computer Based Test: A 2-hour objective test, in Hindi and English, with two sections: 100 questions on professional knowledge in your trade and 50 questions on general knowledge, logical reasoning, numerical ability and English. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking. You must score at least 50% in each section (UR/EWS) or 45% in each section (SC/ST/OBC-NCL).

Skill Test: Qualifying candidates are called for a Trade Test or Computer Proficiency Test in order of merit, 5 candidates per post. It is qualifying only.

Final merit list: Prepared unit-wise, trade-wise and category-wise, using only your CBT marks, for those who qualified the Skill Test. Documents are verified before offer letters go out.

Exam centres (tentative, choose two): Mumbai and Nagpur; Bhubaneswar and Berhampur; Trivandrum and Kochi; Bhopal and Indore; Chennai and Nagercoil; Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.

Why This Job Matters

IREL runs mineral sand mining and processing plants and rare earth extraction facilities, and it comes under the Department of Atomic Energy. These Tradesman posts are the plant-floor trades, and the hire path is training first, then regular pay. Seats are heavily weighted to Odisha (40 of 131).

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: An ITI or NAC holder with 2 years of experience in Fitter, Electrician, Instrumentation or chemical-plant work, who wants a stable PSU trade job with a ₹34,200 stipend during training and is willing to be transferred anywhere in India.

Who should think twice: You must choose one unit and one trade, you cannot change either later, and the fee is not refundable, so picking a unit where your trade has only 1 or 4 seats is a gamble; fresh ITI pass-outs without 2 years of experience cannot apply.

Practical tip: The CBT has separate pass marks for each section (50% for UR/EWS, 45% for others), so do not drop the 50 general questions on reasoning, numerical ability and English to focus only on your trade, because failing either section ends your chances whatever your total score.

Documents Required

At application:

  • Category certificate for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS in the Government of India format. OBC-NCL certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, and EWS certificates must be valid for 2026-27
  • Service or discharge certificate for ex-servicemen

For the Skill Test (upload at registration):

  • Aadhaar card
  • Age proof (birth certificate or SSLC/Matriculation mark sheet)
  • ITI/NAC certificate in the relevant trade (or Class 12 Science mark sheet for Attendant Operator)
  • Proof of 2 years of work experience: experience certificate, appointment order and pay slips

Government and PSU employees need a No Objection Certificate by the Skill Test, or must apply through proper channel. Certificates in languages other than English or Hindi need a self-certified translation.

What Happens After Selection

Document verification comes before the offer letter, followed by a pre-employment medical examination and character and antecedent verification. Selected candidates are engaged as trainees for 1 year at ₹34,200 per month, and may then be absorbed as Tradesman in W-3 grade. The job is transferable to any IREL unit or project site in India, and no change of the posting place chosen at application is entertained. A wait-list valid for one year is kept for each unit.

Contact & Helpline

For problems with the online application, the notification gives the Help Desk phone number 022-61087577 (Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM) and the email hrmrect-ho@irel.co.in. This is the only official channel named; IREL will not contact candidates through any other number for payment or personal details. All updates are sent by email and posted on www.irel.co.in.
