Indian Overseas Bank has invited online applications for 25 Security Guard posts, open exclusively to Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers, for postings in Chennai/Tamil Nadu. This is not open to civilian or fresher candidates — applicants must be discharged Army, Navy, or Air Force personnel who are 10th pass (but not graduates) and know Tamil. Online applications close on 14 September 2026, and there is no application fee.

Who Should Apply

  • Ex-Servicemen from the Army, Navy, or Air Force with an exemplary discharge record, 10th standard pass (but not a graduate), and Tamil language proficiency.
  • Ex-Agniveers, including those still serving whose Specific Period of Engagement completes on or before 30 September 2026, meeting the same educational and language conditions.

This recruitment is not open to civilians, freshers with no defence background, disabled Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Disabilities, or dependants of servicemen killed in action — the notification explicitly excludes these groups.

Eligibility & Age Limit

You need a pass in 10th standard or its equivalent, but you must not have passed Graduation or an equivalent examination. You must be able to speak, read, and write in Tamil. Your character must have been rated "EXEMPLARY" at the time of your valid discharge from the Armed Forces, and your medical standard at discharge must have been at least SHAPE-1 or AYE, whichever applies to your service.

Age is calculated as on 1 August 2026 (the cut-off date, not the application date): minimum 18 years, maximum 26 years for General category. Age relaxation for Ex-Servicemen: General category can go up to 26 years plus their actual defence service period plus 3 years, SC/ST up to 31 years plus service period plus 3 years, and OBC up to 29 years plus service period plus 3 years — all subject to an overall cap of 45 years across every category. Ex-Agniveers get 21 years plus their actual Agniveer service period plus 3 years, with no stated overall cap.

  2. Register online to receive your Registration Number and Password by email/SMS.
  3. Scan and upload your photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and a handwritten declaration exactly per the Bank's specifications, and capture a live photo through the portal.
  4. Fill in every field of the online application carefully — your name must match your certificates exactly, or your candidature may be disqualified.
  5. Click "COMPLETE REGISTRATION" and download the printout of your submitted form for your records.

Resize your photo and signature to the exact spec before uploading — the notification requires a colour photograph of 200×230 px under 50 KB, a signature of 140×60 px between 10–20 KB, a left thumb impression of 240×240 px (20–50 KB), and a handwritten declaration image of 800×400 px (50–100 KB), all in JPG/JPEG. You can also check your exact age as on the cut-off date since eligibility is judged as on 1 August 2026, not today.

How Are Candidates Selected

Online Objective Type Test: Four sections of 20 marks each (80 total) — Knowledge of English Language, Aptitude Test, Arithmetic Test, and Psychometric Test.

Local Language Test (Tamil): A separate test worth 20 marks assessing your Tamil proficiency.

Physical Fitness Test: 100 marks across four compulsory sub-tests — Push-Ups (30 marks, need 20 to qualify), Sit-Ups (30 marks, need 20), a 1 km Run (30 marks, need 20 — under 4 minutes scores full marks), and Drill (10 marks, need 5). You must pass every sub-test individually, and you get only one attempt at each. You'll also need a medical fitness certificate not older than 15 days, from a Civil Assistant Surgeon or above, before this stage.

The final merit list combines your marks from all three stages, drawn up category-wise.

Why This Job Matters

Indian Overseas Bank is a Public Sector Bank headquartered in Chennai with operations across India and abroad, and this recruitment is IOB's dedicated route for placing Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Agniveers into its security cadre — a recognised path several nationalised banks use to give discharged defence personnel a stable second career. With only 25 posts and a physical fitness bar that many applicants won't clear, it's a small but genuine opportunity specifically carved out for this community.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: This is a strong fit if you're a recently discharged Ex-Serviceman or Ex-Agniveer from Tamil Nadu (or fluent in Tamil) who wants a stable Public Sector Bank job that values your defence service directly in both eligibility and pay fixation.

Who should think twice: If you're a civilian jobseeker, however strong your 10th marks are, you're simply not eligible here — this is not a general-public entry-level post despite the low educational bar. Even eligible Ex-Servicemen need to clear a genuinely demanding Physical Fitness Test with only one attempt per sub-test, so this isn't a "walk-in" government job either.

Practical tip: The Physical Fitness Test allows zero retakes on any individual sub-test — if you fail the 1 km run once, that's final, even if you'd pass the push-ups and sit-ups easily. Start training specifically against the sub-4-minute run and the 20-rep thresholds well before your call letter arrives, not after.

Documents Required

  • Printout of the valid Physical Fitness Test call letter
  • System-generated printout of the submitted online application form
  • Proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate or SSLC/10th certificate showing DOB)
  • Photo Identity Proof (Passport/Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar/PAN Card/Driving Licence/Voter's Card)
  • Mark sheets and certificates for your educational qualification
  • Discharge Book
  • Ex-Servicemen Identity Card
  • SC/ST/OBC/EWS certificate in the prescribed format, if applicable (OBC certificate must carry the Non-Creamy Layer clause, valid as on 14 September 2026)

Ration Card and Learner's Driving Licence are not accepted as valid ID proof for this process.

What Happens After Selection

Selected candidates will be on probation for 6 months of active service from their joining date, and confirmed after successfully completing it. Appointment is provisional until the Bank completes medical fitness clearance and verification of character, antecedents, and caste certificates (where applicable). Vacancies are currently identified in Chennai, but the Bank reserves the right to post selected candidates anywhere in Tamil Nadu, at any Branch or Office, at its sole discretion.
