Selection Process

Merit list drawn purely from marks in the qualifying exam (Std X for Trade Apprentices, Diploma marks for Technician Apprentices, Degree marks for Graduate Apprentices), with no written test or interview, followed by document verification and a physical fitness check under the Apprentices Act.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchirappalli is hiring 530 apprentices for 2026-27 under the Apprentices Act — 380 Trade Apprentice, 60 Technician Apprentice, and 90 Graduate Apprentice posts. 10th-pass-with-ITI, diploma, and degree/B.Com/B.A holders from Tamil Nadu are eligible. Applications close on 12 September 2026.

Who Should Apply

  • Trade Apprentice (380 posts) — 10th pass plus a full-time ITI (NCVT/SCVT) certificate in trades like Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Turner, Machinist, Instrument Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Mechanic (R&AC), and COPA.
  • Technician Apprentice (60 posts) — 10th pass plus a full-time 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Computer, Civil, Electronics & Communication, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering, completed within the last 5 years.
  • Graduate Apprentice (90 posts) — 10+2 plus a full-time degree: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, ECE or EEE, B.Com (for the Accountant slot), or B.A. (for the Assistant-HR slot).

Eligibility & Age Limit

Minimum age 18, maximum 27 years as on 01/08/2026 for General candidates, across all three categories. Age relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and 10 years for candidates with at least 40% disability. Diploma and Degree holders must have completed their course in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 through regular full-time study — distance-learning, part-time, correspondence or sandwich courses are not accepted, and Graduate Apprentice applicants who already hold a postgraduate qualification (even an integrated PG course) are not eligible. Reservation is 19% SC, 1% ST, 27% OBC (NCL), 10% EWS and 4% for Persons with Benchmark Disability. Candidates who passed their qualifying exam outside Tamil Nadu are considered only if no suitable Tamil Nadu candidate is available for a given trade or discipline.

Salary & Pay Scale

This is an apprenticeship, not a regular job, so pay is a fixed monthly stipend rather than a salary band: ₹10,560–₹11,040 for Trade Apprentices (varies by trade), ₹10,900 flat for Technician Apprentices, and ₹12,300 flat for Graduate Apprentices. The stipend rises by 10% in the second year of training, and BHEL also provides subsidised food and hostel facilities during training.

Application Fee

There is no application fee for any category in this recruitment — it is free to apply.

How to Apply

  1. First register on the relevant Government of India portal: apprenticeshipindia.gov.in (NAPS) for Trade Apprentice posts, or nats.education.gov.in (NATS 2.0) for Technician and Graduate Apprentice posts. Note your registration/enrolment number — it's mandatory for the BHEL application.
  2. Go to the BHEL Tiruchirappalli portal at trichy.bhel.com and open the Apprenticeship Application Portal (TRICHY) link.
  3. Register, accept the listed instructions, and complete the registration form. An OTP goes to your registered email and mobile — use it to set your password.
  4. Log in, fill the application form, and upload a scanned colour passport photo, signature, 10th mark sheet, mark sheet of your qualifying course, community certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar card, your NAPS/NATS profile screenshot, and an Aadhaar-seeded, DBT-enabled bank passbook front page.
  5. Submit the form and keep a copy — you'll need it at document verification.

Since age relaxation is tied to the 01 August 2026 cut-off date, it's worth checking your exact age as on that date before you register.

How Are Candidates Selected

Selection is purely on a merit list — there is no written exam or interview for any of the three apprentice categories. The merit list is drawn from your marks in the qualifying examination: Std X marks for Trade Apprentices, Diploma marks for Technician Apprentices, and Degree marks for Graduate Apprentices. If two candidates tie on marks, the older one is preferred. Shortlisted candidates then go through document verification and must meet the minimum physical fitness standard under the Apprentices Act before training begins.

Why This Job Matters

BHEL is a Maharatna central public sector enterprise, and its Tiruchirappalli unit is one of its largest manufacturing plants, building boilers and power-plant equipment. With 530 slots across three qualification levels in a single cycle, this is one of the largest apprenticeship intakes currently open in Tamil Nadu — though it is a training program, not recruitment into a permanent BHEL job.

The FreshersLike Take

This is a strong fit if you're an ITI, diploma, or degree holder from Tamil Nadu who wants certified, paid, hands-on training at a major PSU plant, and you're comfortable that selection depends entirely on marks you've already earned, with nothing to prepare for. Think twice if you're hoping this converts into a permanent BHEL job — the circular is explicit that completing the apprenticeship creates no employment right or obligation. Practical tip: because there's no exam, the highest-leverage thing you can do is register on the NAPS/NATS government portal (whichever applies to your category) well before the last date — BHEL's own application requires that registration number as a prerequisite, and portal traffic tends to spike in the final days.

Documents Required

  • Scanned colour passport-size photograph
  • Scanned signature
  • 10th standard mark sheet
  • Mark sheet of your qualifying technical course (ITI/Diploma/Degree, as applicable)
  • Community certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD), if claiming reservation
  • Aadhaar card
  • Screenshot of your NAPS (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) or NATS (nats.education.gov.in) profile home page
  • Aadhaar-seeded, DBT-enabled bank passbook front page
