Bank of Baroda has released Advertisement No. BOB/HRM/REC/ADVT/2026/16 for 2482 Local Bank Officer (LBO) posts in the JMG/S-I grade, to be filled state-wise across 20 states and union territories. Graduates with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, and proficiency in the local language of their chosen state, can apply. Online applications close on 7 September 2026.

Who Should Apply

  • Local Bank Officer (LBO), JMG/S-I — graduates in any discipline who already hold at least 1 year of officer-level experience in a Scheduled Commercial Bank and speak the local language of the state they're applying for. This is not an entry-level post for freshers with no banking background — prior officer experience is compulsory.

Eligibility & Age Limit

You need a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university, a minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience as an Officer in any Scheduled Commercial Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the RBI, and proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the local language of the state you apply for. All eligibility conditions — qualification, experience, age, and language — are assessed as on the cut-off date of 1 August 2026, which is earlier than both the notification date and the application closing date, so check your eligibility against that date specifically, not today's date.

Age limit (General category, as on 1 August 2026): minimum 21 years, maximum 30 years. Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 10 years for PwBD (General/EWS), 13 years for PwBD+OBC, 15 years for PwBD+SC/ST, and for Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officers with at least 5 years of military service — 5 years (General/EWS), 8 years (OBC), 10 years (SC/ST). There is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the officer cadre, only this age relaxation.

Salary & Pay Scale

Selected candidates draw pay on the JMG/S-I scale of ₹48,480–2,000/7–₹62,480–2,340/2–₹67,160–2,680/7–₹85,920, plus allowances and perquisites under the industry-level bipartite settlement for bank officers. Candidates with 1 year or more of prior officer experience get one advance increment. This is a regular officer-grade bank salary, not a stipend, so in-hand pay will be meaningfully higher than the basic once allowances (DA, HRA, etc.) are added.

Important Dates

Event Date
Cut-off date for eligibility (qualification, age, experience, language) 1 August 2026
Online registration & fee payment opens 18 August 2026
Online registration & fee payment closes 7 September 2026

Application Fee

  • General, EWS & OBC: ₹850 (inclusive of GST) + payment gateway charges
  • SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen/Dependents of Ex-Servicemen (ESM/DESM) & Women: ₹175 (inclusive of GST) + payment gateway charges
  • Fee is non-refundable and must be paid whether or not you're eventually shortlisted or the test is held. Payment modes: Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, or UPI.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the official application portal and register with a valid personal email ID and mobile number that you can keep active through the whole process.
  2. Fill in personal details, educational qualification, and post-qualification banking experience details.
  3. Select the one state you're applying for — you can apply for only one state, and applying to more than one leads to forfeiture of fees on the extra registrations.
  4. Upload the required documents: photograph, signature, resume, proof of date of birth, educational certificates, experience certificate/job profile from your current or previous bank employer, and caste/PwBD certificate if applicable.
  5. Review every detail carefully — no changes are allowed after you click Submit.
  6. Pay the application fee online, then download and keep the final application printout and fee receipt for your records.

Check your exact age as on the cut-off date before applying, since eligibility here is judged against 1 August 2026, not the application date.

How Are Candidates Selected

Online Test: Four sections — English Language, Banking Knowledge, General/Economic Awareness, and Reasoning Ability & Quantitative Aptitude — 30 questions and 30 marks each, 30 minutes per section (120 minutes total). English Language is qualifying only and doesn't count toward the merit list. There's a penalty of 0.25 marks per wrong answer.

Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview: Minimum qualifying marks are 60% for General category and 55% for Reserved category candidates.

Psychometric Test: An additional assessment the Bank may use as it sees fit.

Local Language Proficiency Test (LPT): Required unless you've already studied the local language of your chosen state up to 10th or 12th standard.

Why This Job Matters

Bank of Baroda is one of India's largest public sector banks, and the Local Bank Officer role exists specifically to staff branches with officers who speak the local language and understand the regional customer base. With 2482 posts spread across 20 states — including large blocks in Gujarat (1185) and Karnataka (418) — this is one of the bigger officer-level PSU bank recruitment drives this year, and it's built around retaining officers within the state they're posted to for continuity.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: This suits a working bank officer with at least a year of experience who wants to move into Bank of Baroda specifically and is comfortable committing to a fixed state for a long stretch of their career — it's not a job for someone straight out of college with zero banking background.

Who should think twice: If you're not already an officer at a Scheduled Commercial Bank, you're not eligible at all — this notification explicitly excludes freshers and non-officer bank staff. Selected candidates are also locked into the state they apply for, for the first 12 years of service or until promotion to SMGS-IV, whichever comes first, plus a 3-year service bond (or payment of up to ₹2 lakh to exit early) — so pick your state deliberately.

Practical tip: Since eligibility is locked to 1 August 2026, not the date you actually submit your form, don't assume you're ineligible (or eligible) based on your status today — check your exact experience duration and age as they stood on that specific cut-off date before you rule yourself in or out.

Documents Required

  • Recent photograph and signature (scanned, per the portal's scanning guidelines)
  • Resume
  • Date of Birth proof
  • Educational certificates (graduation degree/marksheet)
  • Experience certificate/job profile certifying your officer-grade banking experience, from your current or previous employer
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC, if claiming reservation)
  • PwBD certificate (if applicable)
  • Valid Aadhaar card (Online Aadhaar verification is conducted at multiple stages)

What Happens After Selection

Selected candidates will be posted within the state they applied for, for the first 12 years of service or until promotion to SMGS-IV grade, whichever is earlier. They will be on probation for 12 months from the date of joining, and must execute a Service Bond to serve a minimum of 3 years, or pay an amount equal to three months' gross salary (capped at ₹2 lakh) if they leave before completing 3 years. Biometric data/IRIS scan and photograph verification will be carried out at the exam stage, at GD/interview, and again at the time of joining.
