Eligibility & Age Limit

Qualification is organization-specific rather than uniform across all JE posts — some organizations (like CPWD) accept only a Diploma, while others (like BRO and MES) accept a Degree or a Diploma plus two years' relevant experience; any experience must be acquired after completing the qualification, and internship/training/research experience during the qualification doesn't count. The age limit is either up to 30 years (most organizations) or up to 32 years (CPWD and Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships), reckoned as on 1 August 2026 — candidates must be born between 2 August 1996 and 1 August 2008 for the 30-year limit, or between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2008 for the 32-year limit. Age relaxation beyond the upper limit is 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD (Unreserved/EWS), 13 years for PwBD (OBC), 15 years for PwBD (SC/ST), and 3 years (after deducting military service from actual age) for Ex-Servicemen — not admissible to sons, daughters, or other dependents of Ex-Servicemen. Only male candidates are eligible for JE posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Salary & Pay Scale

All posts are Group 'B' in Pay Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission's Pay Matrix, with a pay scale of ₹35,400–₹1,12,400. Actual in-hand salary will also include applicable allowances (DA, HRA, TA) as per the rules of the respective recruiting organization, which aren't detailed in this notice.

Fee can be paid only through online modes — BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card — up to 23 September 2026 (23:00 hours). It's non-refundable and can't be adjusted against any other exam. Applications with unpaid or incomplete fee status are summarily rejected.

How to Apply

1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on ssc.gov.in — an OTR from the old website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid here.
2. Log in and fill the online application form via the SSC website or the "mySSC" mobile app.
3. Upload your photograph and signature, or opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication — this exempts you from certain photo/signature format rejections and from carrying photo ID/photos to the exam centre.
4. Select your organization, post, and relevant subject/stream matching your educational qualification — this choice is final and cannot be changed later.
5. Pay the application fee online (if applicable) via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or a Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card.
6. Preview and submit the form, and save/print a copy for your records.

How Are Candidates Selected

Paper-I (Computer Based Examination): Qualifying in nature. General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 questions/50 marks) and General Awareness (50 questions/50 marks) are compulsory for everyone, plus the relevant engineering/technical subject based on your post (100 questions/100 marks). Duration is 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates). Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer.

Paper-II (Computer Based Examination): For candidates shortlisted from Paper-I. Covers the relevant engineering/technical subject in depth (100 questions/300 marks) in 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates). Negative marking of 1 mark per wrong answer. Only Paper-II marks count toward final merit — separate merit lists are drawn for JE (Civil), JE (Electrical & Mechanical), Scientific Assistant (IMD), and JE (Telecom).

Document Verification: Provisionally selected candidates must produce original certificates (educational qualification, category, age proof, experience, etc.) for the concerned user department.

Physical Standards and Medical Examination: Applicable specifically for JE posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), per the detailed physical/medical standards in the notice's Annexure-XVI.

Minimum qualifying marks in both papers are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.

What Happens After Selection

Selected candidates are placed on probation for two years, during which they must undergo any training or pass any examinations prescribed by the Controlling Authority; on successful completion, they're confirmed to their post by the Cadre Controlling Authority if considered fit. Final post/organization allocation is based on merit-cum-preference in Paper-II, and once a post is allotted, it will not be changed even if the candidate later fails to meet that post's specific physical/medical/educational requirements — such candidates are simply not considered further.
