The Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali, an autonomous body under MeitY, has announced 83 regular posts under Advt. No. SCL:DR:01/2026: 41 Technician B, 30 Technical Assistant, 7 Junior Personal Assistant and 5 officer posts. Applications are online only and open on 1 November 2026 at 11:00 AM and close on 30 November 2026 at 5:00 PM. Almost every post needs 2 or more years of experience, so only Junior Personal Assistant is open to someone with no work experience.

Who Should Apply

• Technician B (41 posts, 12 trades) — Matriculation plus 2 years of ITI (NCVT) or NAC/NTC in the trade, and 2 years of experience. Age 18 to 27.
• Technical Assistant (30 posts, 11 disciplines) — a first class 3-year diploma in the discipline (or a first class B.Sc/BCA for some), and 2 years of experience. Age 18 to 30.
• Junior Personal Assistant (7 posts) — Class 12 pass, with English shorthand at 80 wpm and computer transcription. No experience is stated. Age up to 25.
• Administrative Officer (2), Accounts Officer (1), Purchase & Stores Officer (2) — graduate or postgraduate degree (or the specified MBA, CA or ICWA) plus supervisory experience of 2 to 10 years. Age up to 35.

Eligibility & Age Limit

Only Indian nationals can apply. Age and essential qualifications are counted as on 30 November 2026, the closing date, and this does not change even if the closing date is extended. Experience must be gained after the essential qualification. Meeting the minimum conditions does not guarantee a call for the test.

Experience rules

• Technical Assistant and Technician B: 2 years after the qualification, in an R&D institute, reputed organisation or industry.
• Officer posts: a graduate with 10 years, a postgraduate with 5 years, or an MBA in the relevant field (HR, Finance or Material Management) with 2 years, at supervisory level.
• Junior Personal Assistant: none stated.

Application limits: You can apply for only one of the four administrative posts. You can apply for both a Technical Assistant and a Technician B post, one trade for each, with a separate application and fee for each.

Salary & Pay Scale

The notification says posts are temporary but likely to continue, and technical staff may have to work round-the-clock shifts.

Application Fee

The fee has a non-refundable processing fee of ₹600 plus an application fee that varies by post. Everyone pays the full amount first, for each post applied.

The application fee (not the processing fee) is refunded to women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates who appear in the CBT. Refunds go to the bank account you enter, so check the account number and IFSC carefully. Pay online by 30 November 2026, 5:00 PM.

How to Apply

1. Open the SCL career page, https://www.scl.gov.in/career.html, from 1 November 2026, 11:00 AM. Online is the only mode; any other mode is rejected.
2. Register with your name, date of birth, email ID and mobile number. Keep the registration number you receive by SMS and email.
3. Fill in the form. Write your name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as on your Matriculation certificate.
4. Upload your photograph, signature, left thumb impression (on plain white paper) and certificates, each no more than 50 KB. The photo must be less than 3 months old, without cap or spectacles, with the face clearly visible.
5. Check everything in the preview. No changes are allowed after submission.
6. Pay the fee online for each post, then print the registration confirmation.

Because each upload has to stay under 50 KB, resize your photo and signature to the exact spec and compress your PDF to fit the limit before you start. If you submit more than one form for the same post, only the last one with the fee paid counts. Admit cards come only by SMS and email, so check your spam folder.

How Are Candidates Selected

Administrative Officer, Accounts Officer, Purchase & Stores Officer: a Computer Based Test (CBT) and a Personal Interview. The CBT is 120 minutes with two parts of 60 minutes each. Part A has 100 questions (25 each of General English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence and Logical Ability, and General Knowledge/Current Affairs). Part B is a 100-question test on the subject of the post. Each right answer is 1 mark, each wrong answer loses 0.25. You need 50% in Parts A and B together (UR) or 40% (PwBD). Candidates are shortlisted for the interview at 1:5, with at least 10 candidates per category vacancy. CBT and interview marks count 60:40.

Junior Personal Assistant: a 60-minute CBT (Part A only, same four subjects) and a Stenography Skill Test. Qualifying CBT marks are 50% (UR), 45% (OBC-NCL) and 40% (SC/PwBD/ESM). The shorthand test is an 800-word passage at 80 wpm over 10 minutes, in Pitman's shorthand, transcribed on a computer in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi). Mistakes allowed are 10% for UR and 12% for reserved categories. Selection is on CBT marks, subject to passing the skill test.

Technical Assistant and Technician B: a CBT (Part A plus a trade-wise Part B of 100 questions) and a trade-wise Skill Test. Qualifying marks in Parts A and B together are 50% (UR), 45% (OBC-NCL/EWS) and 40% (SC/ST/PwBD/ESM). The Skill Test is go or no-go and its marks do not count. Final merit is by CBT marks among those who pass the Skill Test. The CBTs for the two posts are held separately, so applying for both means two sessions.

Centres: The CBT is at New Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Skill Tests and interviews are only at Mohali or Chandigarh. The notification lists the CBT syllabus on pages 22 to 28.

Why This Job Matters

SCL describes itself as India's only integrated device manufacturing facility for ASICs, opto-electronic devices and MEMS, covering design, fabrication, packaging and testing. This recruitment is mainly for the technical staff who run that fab, and it is a rare opening for ITI and diploma holders in the semiconductor sector.

Who should think twice: Apart from Junior Personal Assistant, every post needs experience, technical staff may work round-the-clock shifts and can be posted anywhere in India, and you pay a ₹600 non-refundable processing fee for each post you apply to.

Practical tip: Trade-wise seats are tiny except in Electronics (22 across both technical posts), so check your trade in the vacancy list and the Part B syllabus now, and remember the 0.25 negative marking when you practise.

• For ex-servicemen: the service/discharge certificate and the annexure forms in the notification
• Certificate for any age relaxation you claim
• No Objection Certificate in original from your employer if you work in Central/State Government, a PSU or an autonomous body. Without it you cannot appear for the Skill Test or interview.

Outstation candidates called for the Skill Test or interview get sleeper-class train or ordinary bus fare by the shortest route. No travel allowance is paid for the CBT.
