Eligibility

Candidates need a Graduate degree in any discipline from a Government-recognized University or Institution, plus a Certification in Forex Operations from IIBF, both dated on or before 31.07.2026; JMGS-I additionally needs at least 1 year of post-qualification Trade Finance experience in an Officer/Official role at a scheduled commercial bank (preferably as a maker), while MMGS-II needs at least 3 years of such experience; eligible candidates may apply for both posts, and reserved-category and PwBD candidates get specific age relaxation as per Government of India guidelines.

Selection Process

Shortlisting based on qualification, suitability and experience (meeting minimum eligibility alone does not guarantee a call), followed by a 100-mark Interview, then a Merit List ranked purely on interview score, and finally document verification, reference checks and a medical examination for provisionally selected candidates.

State Bank of India has invited online applications for 35 Trade Finance Officer - IBG (TFO-IBG) posts under its Specialist Cadre, split across JMGS-I (14 posts) and MMGS-II (21 posts). Candidates need a graduate degree plus an IIBF Certification in Forex Operations and relevant Trade Finance experience. The last date to apply online is 19 September 2026.

Who Should Apply

  • Trade Finance Officer - IBG, JMGS-I (14 posts, "Maker" role) — Graduate (any discipline) plus IIBF Certification in Forex Operations, with at least 1 year of post-qualification Trade Finance experience in an Officer role at a scheduled commercial bank, preferably in a maker capacity.
  • Trade Finance Officer - IBG, MMGS-II (21 posts, "Checker" role) — Same base qualification and certification, with at least 3 years of post-qualification Trade Finance experience in an Officer role at a scheduled commercial bank.

Eligible candidates can apply for both posts if they meet each post's separate age and experience criteria.

Eligibility & Age Limit

Age is reckoned as on 31.07.2026. For JMGS-I, the age window is 21 to 30 years; for MMGS-II, it's 23 to 32 years. The maximum age applies to Unreserved category candidates. Age relaxation: OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) gets 3 years, SC/ST gets 5 years, PwBD (UR/EWS) gets 10 years, PwBD (OBC) gets 13 years, and PwBD (SC/ST) gets 15 years — cumulative relaxation across categories is not allowed. Both the mandatory IIBF Forex Operations certification and any preferred certification must be dated on or before 31.07.2026. Teaching and training experience does not count toward the required Trade Finance experience.

Salary & Pay Scale

JMGS-I carries the pay scale ₹48,480–₹85,920, and MMGS-II carries ₹64,820–₹93,960, both under State Bank of India's officer pay structure, with DA, HRA, CCA, Provident Fund, NPS, Leave Fare Concession, medical facility, and other perquisites on top as per Bank rules. Both grades carry a 6-month probation period. These are officer-cadre bank salaries with real allowance top-ups, so actual in-hand pay will run meaningfully above the basic figure shown here.

How Are Candidates Selected

Shortlisting — Based on qualification, suitability, and experience against the post applied for. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria alone does not guarantee an interview call; the shortlisting committee decides the parameters and the Bank's decision is final.

Interview — Carries 100 marks. The qualifying cut-off is decided by the Bank.

Merit List — Prepared in descending order purely on interview score. If candidates tie at the cut-off, they're ranked by age in descending order (older candidates rank higher).

Post-selection checks — Provisionally selected candidates go through document verification, reference checks, and a medical examination before a firm offer.

Why This Job Matters

State Bank of India is India's largest public sector bank, and Trade Finance Officer is a specialist-cadre role handling import/export documentation, Letters of Credit, and Forex-linked banking operations — a technical banking track distinct from general branch banking. With 35 posts split across a Maker (JMGS-I) and Checker (MMGS-II) structure, and a clearly indicated posting preference for Hyderabad and Kolkata, this is a focused specialist hiring round rather than a broad, India-wide generalist recruitment — and it's a Specialist Cadre appointment with no provision for conversion to General cadre.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: strongly suited to graduates who already work in bank Trade Finance operations and hold (or can quickly obtain) an IIBF Forex Operations certificate — this isn't an entry point for someone without existing bank experience. Who should think twice: this role runs in rotational shifts, including a night shift (9:00 PM–6:00 AM), and the Bank can post you anywhere in India at its discretion — while Hyderabad and Kolkata are the suggested locations, a request for a different posting won't be entertained, and this is a Specialist Cadre role with no path to General cadre conversion. Practical tip: your experience certificate from your current employer must explicitly state your Trade Finance role and duration — a generic HR-issued experience letter that doesn't specifically confirm "Trade Finance processing/operations in an Officer role" risks getting your candidature rejected at the shortlisting stage, so get it worded correctly before you apply, not after.

Documents Required

  • Recent photograph and signature (JPEG, per prescribed size/dimensions)
  • Detailed Resume (PDF)
  • ID Proof (PDF)
  • Proof of Date of Birth (PDF)
  • Caste Certificate and PwBD Certificate, if applicable (PDF)
  • Degree Certificate (mandatory educational qualification, PDF)
  • Mandatory Certification in Forex Operations from IIBF (PDF)
  • Preferred certification, if any (PDF)
  • Experience certificates, mandatory, explicitly stating your Trade Finance role (PDF)
  • Biodata Form, duly filled and signed (available on the Bank's career page, PDF)
  • Form-16/Offer Letter from current employer (PDF)
  • No Objection Certificate, mandatory if currently working in a Government Organisation, PSU, or Public Sector Bank (PDF)
  • Mandatory Undertaking, in the format on the Bank's career page against this advertisement (PDF)

What Happens After Selection

Shortlisting is provisional and without document verification; when a candidate reports for interview, all details and documents are verified against the originals. Provisionally selected candidates must then satisfy verification of eligibility, credentials, and certificates, get satisfactory reference reports, and clear a medical examination before appointment. Selected candidates go through a 6-month probation period. Candidates already working in Government, Quasi-Government, PSU, or Public Sector Bank roles must submit a No Objection Certificate at the time of interview, and must produce a proper Discharge/Relieving Certificate from their current employer before joining. The Bank can post selected officers anywhere in India, or depute them to associates/subsidiaries, at its sole discretion — a request for a specific posting location will not be entertained.
