Selection Process

Phase I Online Screening Examination (used only for shortlisting), Phase II Online Examination (85% weightage in final result), Phase III Interview (15% weightage in final result).

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has released Advt. No. 03/2026 for 30 Officer Grade 'A' (Assistant Manager) posts across the General, Research, Actuary, and Official Language (Rajbhasha) streams. Indian citizens up to 30 years old (as on 31.07.2026) holding the relevant Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification can apply online from 3 September 2026 to 24 September 2026 at pfrda.org.in.

Who Should Apply

  • General stream (25 posts) — any Master's degree/PG diploma holder, or a Bachelor's in Law or Engineering, or a qualified CA/CS/CMA/CFA.
  • Research stream (2 posts) — Master's degree/PG diploma in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Data Science, or closely related quantitative subjects.
  • Actuary stream (2 posts) — any graduate who has passed or is exempted from all 7 Core Principles subjects of the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) exam.
  • Official Language/Rajbhasha stream (1 post) — Master's degree in Hindi/Hindi Translation with English at Bachelor's level, or equivalent Hindi-English postgraduate combinations.

Eligibility & Age Limit

Eligibility and age are both checked as on the cut-off date 31.07.2026. Candidates must not have crossed 30 years of age, i.e. must be born on or after 1 August 1996; the notification does not specify a minimum age. Candidates must be Indian citizens, computer literate, and conversant with MS Word and Excel, and may apply to a maximum of 2 streams with a separate application and fee for each. Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), 10 years for PwBD (13 years if also OBC, 15 years if also SC/ST), and 5 years for Ex-servicemen — relaxations are cumulative for candidates who qualify under more than one category.

Salary & Pay Scale

Selected candidates draw pay on the scale ₹62,500–3600(4)–76,900–4050(7)–1,05,250–EB–4050(4)–1,21,450–4650(1)–1,26,100 (a 17-year scale). The notification states gross emoluments — including PFRDA's NPS contribution, Grade Allowance, DA, HRA-equivalent Housing Allowance, and other allowances — work out to roughly ₹2,05,000 per month at the minimum of scale, so realistic in-hand pay is well above the basic figure once allowances are added.

How Are Candidates Selected

Phase I – Online Screening Exam — two papers of 100 marks each: a common paper (English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, General Awareness — 90 questions, 60 minutes) and a stream-specific paper (50 questions, 40 minutes). There's a 1/4th-mark penalty for wrong answers, and Phase I marks are used only to shortlist candidates for Phase II — they don't count toward final selection.

Phase II – Online Exam — a descriptive English paper (3 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes, 1/3rd weightage) and a stream-specific objective paper (50 questions, 100 marks, 40 minutes, 2/3rd weightage, with 1/4th-mark negative marking). Candidates equal to 5 times the vacancies are shortlisted for interview based on Phase II merit.

Phase III – Interview — conducted in Hindi or English for candidates who clear Phase II.

Final selection is based on Phase II (85% weightage) and Phase III (15% weightage); Phase I marks don't count toward the final result.

Why This Job Matters

PFRDA is the statutory regulator for India's pension sector, overseeing the National Pension System and pension fund managers — a small, specialised organisation compared to most central recruiters, which is why this drive is for only 30 posts across four niche streams rather than a mass-recruitment exam. The Actuary and Research streams in particular are a rare direct entry point into financial-sector regulatory work for candidates with those specific quantitative backgrounds.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: strong for postgraduates in economics, finance, statistics, or actuarial science who want a stable regulatory-sector career rather than a mainstream banking or PSU job. Who should think twice: with only 30 posts spread across 4 streams (just 1–2 posts in three of them), competition per seat will be intense, and PFRDA currently operates only from New Delhi and Mumbai while requiring willingness to serve anywhere in India. Practical tip: Phase I only shortlists you for Phase II and doesn't count toward your final score — so don't over-invest prep time there at the cost of the stream-specific Phase II paper, which alone carries 2/3rd weightage of Phase II and feeds into 85% of your final result.

Documents Required

  • Scanned passport-size colour photograph (4.5cm x 3.5cm; 200x230 pixels; 20–50kb)
  • Scanned signature (140x60 pixels; 10–20kb)
  • Scanned left thumb impression (or right thumb if left is unavailable)
  • Handwritten declaration in English, scanned as specified (20–50kb)
  • Valid personal email ID and mobile number
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD/Ex-servicemen), issued on or after 01.04.2026, where reservation or fee concession is claimed
  • Valid photo ID proof (PAN, Passport, Driving License, Voter ID, Aadhaar/E-Aadhaar) — Ration Card and Learner's License are not accepted

What Happens After Selection

  • Selected candidates undergo a probation period of 2 years.
  • Candidates are liable to be posted to any PFRDA department in New Delhi or Mumbai, and to serve anywhere in India as required.
  • Candidates already employed in Government/Quasi-Government organisations or PSU banks must produce a No Objection Certificate at the time of interview.
  • Outstation candidates called for interview are reimbursed single AC Three Tier return rail fare by the shortest route, against documentary evidence.
