The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has invited online applications for 357 Divisional Cadre posts of Draftsman (Civil) and Works Supervisor in the Public Works (R&B) Department. Domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir with a Draftsman Diploma or 10th-plus-ITI qualification, within the prescribed age limit, are eligible. The last date to apply online is 24 September 2026 [VERIFY — see Important Dates note below].

Who Should Apply

  • Draftsman (Civil), 97 posts — candidates with a Two-Year Draftsman Training Course Certificate or Diploma from a Government-recognized institute.
  • Works Supervisor, 260 posts — candidates who have passed Matriculation (10th) and hold an ITI Certificate in Building Construction or Carpentry trade from JKBOTE or the Director General of Training.

Both posts are open only to domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, split across the Jammu Division and Kashmir Division.

Eligibility & Age Limit

Age is reckoned as on 01.01.2026. The maximum age is 40 years for Open Merit (OM) candidates, and 43 years for SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC/IB, EWS and OBC candidates; PwBD candidates get a maximum age of 42 years. No candidate under any category can be born after 01.01.2008. Ex-servicemen can deduct their period of armed-forces service from their actual age, provided the resulting age does not exceed the post's maximum age limit by more than 3 years. Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification must produce original qualification certificates dated on or before the cut-off date.

See every current opening open to 10th Pass candidates.

Salary & Pay Scale

Draftsman (Civil) carries Pay Level-4 (₹25,500–₹81,100), and Works Supervisor carries Pay Level SL-2 (₹15,900–₹50,400). These are pay-matrix ranges, so actual starting in-hand pay will be closer to the lower end of each band rather than the top, with allowances added as per Jammu & Kashmir Government rules.

How Are Candidates Selected

Written/OMR Examination — Objective-type, Multiple Choice Questions set in English only, with negative marking of one-fourth mark for each wrong answer. The detailed syllabus will be notified separately on the official website.

Document Verification — Candidates who qualify the written exam are called for Document Verification with original certificates; candidates found ineligible at this stage do not proceed further, even if provisionally allowed to sit the exam.

Why This Job Matters

JKSSB conducts recruitment for non-gazetted posts across Jammu and Kashmir Government departments, and this drive is for the Public Works (R&B) Department, which builds and maintains roads and buildings across the Union Territory. At 357 posts, this is one of the larger technical-cadre recruitments JKSSB has run recently, with vacancies split fairly evenly between the Jammu and Kashmir divisions — a large share of the intake (260 of 357 posts) is for Works Supervisor, making it a significant opportunity specifically for 10th-pass-plus-ITI candidates from the region.

The FreshersLike Take

Best fit: a strong option for domiciled J&K candidates with a Draftsman diploma or a Building Construction/Carpentry ITI certificate who want a technical government post with a defined pay matrix rather than a contract role. Who should think twice: this is domicile-restricted, so candidates from outside Jammu and Kashmir cannot apply regardless of qualification, and the objective exam's negative marking means guessing carelessly can cost you more than leaving a question blank. Practical tip: with 260 of the 357 posts under Works Supervisor and only two required documents (Matric + specific-trade ITI certificate), get your ITI trade certificate cross-checked against the exact "Building Construction or Carpentry" wording now — a certificate in a different trade will make you ineligible even if the position is Works Supervisor.

Documents Required

  • Printout of the submitted online application form
  • Original Domicile Certificate of Jammu and Kashmir, valid as on the cut-off date
  • Original Draftsman Training/Diploma certificate, or Matriculation plus ITI Certificate in Building Construction/Carpentry, as applicable
  • Category/Reservation Certificate in the prescribed format, where applicable
  • Birth Certificate or equivalent proof of date of birth
  • Bonafide Certificate (only for candidates who obtained degrees from universities outside J&K, other than Central Universities)
  • Ex-Servicemen Certificate in Form-XIV, where applicable
  • Two recent passport-size colour photographs, not older than six months
  • Valid original Photo ID proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence, PAN Card, or Passport)

What Happens After Selection

Selection is based purely on merit in the written/OMR exam; shortlisted candidates then go through Document Verification with original certificates. The notification does not specify medical examination, training/probation period, or joining timelines beyond this — [VERIFY] with the official notification before assuming further steps.
