Documents Required for Government Job Applications

A general checklist of what to keep ready before you start filling out a government job application.

By FreshersLike Editorial Team · Updated 25 August 2026

Having these ready before you start an application saves you from a half-finished form and a missed deadline.

Usually required at application stage

  • Recent photograph and signature, scanned to the exact size the form specifies — use our Photo/Signature Resizer to get this right the first time.
  • Educational certificates matching the qualification the post requires (mark sheets and the final degree/diploma certificate, not just a provisional one, where applicable).
  • Date of birth proof — usually your 10th-class certificate, since that's the document that typically carries an official DOB in India.
  • A valid ID for the identity fields on the form (details must match your other documents exactly).

Usually required at document verification (later stage)

  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), if you're applying under a reserved category — these often have their own validity period and issuing-authority requirements, so check that yours is current.
  • Disability certificate, if applying under PwD reservation.
  • Domicile/residence certificate, for posts with a state or regional eligibility requirement.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC), if you're already a government employee applying for a different post.
  • Ex-servicemen discharge certificate, if applying under that category.

A general rule worth following

Keep scanned, correctly-sized copies of everything ready before you start an application, not after — many portals have session timeouts, and hunting for a document mid-form is how deadlines get missed. And always check the specific notification's document list; this is a general checklist, not a guarantee of what one particular recruitment requires.
